This place is actually in East Cape, not Buncomb. It recently underwent change of ownership & the food is still decent, but they need to work on customer service.

I had heard a lot about how good Babe's Fish Wagon was from the locals and actually had the chance to meet the owner at another establishment about a year ago. I told I would check it out eventually. Well almost a year and a half at past by when I decided it was time to give the restaurant a try. I had heard great things about the buffalo. But was told to get there early if I wanted to try it, because many like it and it sells out fast. Today I decided to go to Babe's which is on the other side of the river. To my surprise there was a line of cars in the parking lot. On otherwise a very nice day with little traffic anywhere in the area, there was a large gathering at this restaurant. I order my meal, gauge the setting, and talk to some more of the local customers. One told me how he'd been there many times before and decided to treat his grand kids to a buffalo dinner. There had to been roughly 15 cars and maybe 10 by standers waiting patiently for there food. This attraction to me signified that I was onto something good in southern Illinois. Finally, after a short wait I received the items I purchased, which were the buffalo ribs, chicken strips and Cajun wedges. They had all the condiments you could ask for already to go and didn't scrimp on them either. I elected to go with bbq sauce, hot sauce, tarter sauce and catchup. The staff was exceptionally friendly and very nice. Which was also a treat given the current pandemic. Once condiments were received I headed home. Once home, I opened up my carton and finally got to see what my olfactory parts had delightfully sensed. And it was a large sized meal , which I'm a fan of. The chicken strips were cooked perfectly and crunchy but tender. The wedges were great, cooked well, and thick. The buffalo was new to me and man did it remind me of fish-fry's from my childhood! Flavorful breading and cooked well, they were also delicious. In the end I was stirred right. I recommend this restaurant to any local or passer-byer. It is extremely authentic and delicious place with a friendly staff. Didn't mind the short wait for great food. Now I see what all the fuss was about! Great place and worth a try!

Every single time I come into town to visit my sister she makes she to get me some Babe's! The fish is fresh and the portions are definitely a nice size. My sister is a regular to the point that if she hasn't been in a few weeks and she calls, they literally ask her where has she been! Can't wait to get some TODAY!!!

Don't pass this little place up when going through East Cape, IL! They cook up the BEST FISH around!! I can't say enough about their fish. The service is great and the people are the nicest!! If they are busy, which they normally are during their peak times, do yourself a favor and endure the slight wait in the comfort of your own vehicle. You'll be glad you did!

Very good, very adequate. I don't think there are any perfect places to eat. I love a place that delivers a consistent product. Babes Fish Wagon fill the bill and the belly! Freshly made while you wait. Beautiful golden fried fishy love pours through take out windows. Go there on a Friday and see the buzz this creates. If you are in Cape Girardeau, cross our famous suspension bridge and look to the left! If that's not good enough directions it's right across from the big strip club!! Not kidding. Ha!

Awesome place for fried cat fish and fried buffalo fish. The hush puppies are pretty great too. There are a few outdoor tables for seating. Employees are friendly. This place is about as casual as it gets. It's seasonal...I'm not sure when it closes down.
